John B. Wefing has taught at Seton Hall for more than forty years. He also has served as Associate Dean and Acting Dean. Professor Wefing has been Of Counsel to the firm for over fifteen years.

Professor Wefing has written extensively in the areas of criminal law and New Jersey Constitutional Law. He has received numerous awards at Seton Hall including the Bishop McQuade Medal for service to the University and the Thomas More Medal for commitment to Catholic education. He was also selected by the State Bar Association as Young Lawyer of Year.

He has taught as a visiting professor at St. John's Law School, Catholic University Law School and Cardozo Law School and has served as an adjunct professor on many occasions at Rutgers University Law School in Newark.

He has worked for the New Jersey Attorney General's Office and Passaic County Legal Services. He served as the Planning Board Attorney for the Town of Kearny for almost twenty years.

He has been active on numerous bar association committees as well as Supreme Court Committees and Governor's committees.

Professor Wefing is a member of the Board of Mount St. Dominic’s Academy and serves as Chair of the Development Committee. He was recently inducted into Mount St. Dominic’s Hall of Fame.

Rutgers Press recently agreed to publish the biography of Richard J. Hughes which Professor Wefing has written. Richard J. Hughes was Governor of New Jersey from 1962 – 1970 and Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court from 1973 – 1979. During his years as Governor Hughes was involved in important national and international matters including hosting the summit meeting between President Johnson and Premier Kosygin of the Soviet Union in Glassboro, hosting the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, and chairing the credential committee at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago where he was seriously considered for the position of nominee for the Vice-Presidency. As Chief Justice he wrote many important decisions including the Quinlan decision which was the first decision in the country dealing with the right to die issue.

During his time with the firm, Professor Wefing has written wills and briefs, and given advice to various clients on differing legal matters.
